Last minute details

Hi Family,

The verbal responses to this family reunion has been outstanding. However, we haven't received everyone's registration forms yet. I understand that it has been a holiday weekend and I expect mail through out the coming week. So if you have procrastinated on getting your reservation in the mail, please take this gentle reminder to heart.

Peggy needs to have all the directory orders in soon, so if you are interested in a spectacular family directory, please get your order into her as soon as possible. Like wise, if you want a Nicola Family Genealogy scroll, please contact Diane as soon as possible. Judy Jutzy is working on the t-shirt order. You won't want to miss having your family identified with this year's Nicola t-shirt. Here is contact information for each one:

Some of you have asked about the cost of the dorm rooms. They are at no charge to us, as is the rest of the campus. The cost for registration is simply the food expense. You may have additional expenses depending if you decide to golf or purchase Mary Kay products, etc.

Things to Bring:
Bedding, bath towels, comfortable clothes and walking shoes, light jacket (the evenings can cool down), Nicola artifacts for the museum, old family photos on CD or just bring them and we'll scan them at Rio, your memories and lots of space in your heart to embrace "new" family members.

Donations: We will collect a donation to give to Rio Lindo Academy for generously allowing us to use their campus for the weekend. Included in this donation will be payment for one of the Rio staff who will assist in the kitchen.

If you haven't read the blog before, you will find many interesting details about the Nicola Family Reunion as you scroll down. You will want to know about the picnic, talent show, Nicola Trivia Game, and more. I'll be posting a detailed schedule for the weekend as soon as all the reservation forms are in and we know exactly which events will be offered.

Registration Forms on the way

Hi Everyone,

By this time tomorrow, (May 4, 2009) you will probably have received an e-mail from me with the Nicola Family Reunion Registration Form. I can't believe it is less than 2 months until we will all be together, celebrating our family. If you don't get the e-mail by Monday, May 4, please call me at 530-257-7627 or e-mail me at karen.nicola@gmail.com. I'll be happy to send the information to you. If you get the e-mail and know of someone who isn't on the address list, please feel free to forward it to them. Thanks for your help in this area. We decided to use electronic mail to save on both time and postage, but we want to make sure everyone who needs to know about the reunion gets the info.

Registration Deadline: June 4. In order to make sure all t-shirts, family directories, and meal planning is adequate, please get your reservation information to us by June 4. Remember, the accommodations are free---all we need to cover is the cost of meals.

Hi Everyone,
I know it has been a while since I up dated the Family Reunion information. I am writing to let you know that I am just about ready to post registration information and weekend scheduling. I am waiting to hear back from a few key family members before posting this pertinent information. Thank you for your patience. I want to thank many of you for volunteering to help in a variety of ways. When everyone does their part, it will make our reunion unforgettable! I am still looking for a life guard among the family, so if you know of anyone who will have a life guard license please notify me so we can use the pool. Until next time, Karen

These are pictures of the Nicola Family Scroll. It is 13 feet long, starting in 1717 and continues to 1988. I would like to update it to the current year. You can help by sending me any family additions since 1988 and I will be glad to print them as much as possible onto the scroll.

Include marriages, children, and grandchildren with the year of their births and deaths. Send as soon as possible, and no later then May 31st. This can be sent in by e-mail to Diane.

None will be added after that date, for the chart will be going to press. If you would like a copy, send your request along with $15.00 for each copy by May 31st to Diane.

Please include your phone number and e-mail address in case I have any questions. Your copy of the scroll will be ready at the reunion in Healdsburg. If you have any questions, please give me a call. If you can’t attend the reunion and would like a copy of this scroll, it can be arranged. Shipping and handling costs will need to be added. I will look into the charges and have them available when I hear from you.

Here is the latest in our plans for the Nicola Reunion. We appreciate everyone's enthusiasm and anticipation. As we each do our part, by planning to help or planning to attend, we can be assured of a fabulous time together. Can't wait to see you all there. Here is the most current information as of 2/12/09:

• Location. Rio Lindo Academy has offered the facilities for our use from June 25-28 free of charge. A $1000 cleaning deposit will be needed by the first of June. We could use a volunteer to part with $1000 for a month.
• Accommodations. We will have access to the dorm rooms in the Girl's dorm. There are only a handful of prepared guest rooms with a private bath. Let's reserve those for the ones who need them the most. The Girl's dorm has recently been upgraded with refurbished bathrooms and new carpet. There are even new beds. Plan to bring your own bedding. RV spaces with hook ups are available OR RV's may park around the Girl's dorm if you are self contained. We will be posting a registration form in a few weeks. Thank you for your patience in this matter
• Family Directory. Peggy is kindly putting together a family directory, so we can all stay in better contact with each other after our special reunion. Please watch for deadlines and information that she will need from you.
• Trivia and Talent Show. We are planning a Nicola Trivia Game Show and Talent Show for Sat. night. Denny Nicola will be the emcee. Talent scouts are Norene Nicola and Judy Rich (when she confirms her position) If you know of anyone who has an entertaining talent, or a family group that wants to put together an act, please contact these two ladies with your information. (e-mail addresses still coming)
• Sports. Danny Nicola is heading up the athletic events for all who want to be involved in a little bit of basketball, volleyball, softball, and swimming. We must have a licenced life guard. So if any of you have that training and are current, please feel free to volunteer. Thanks
• Nicola Heritage Photo Albums. We are planning to utilize the computer age to assist those who are interested in creating a personalized Nicola Heritage photo album. Watch for more details about this great use of digital technology at the family reunion.
• Friday Options. Like last time, we are arranging for several family experience options on Friday. Some of them include: canoeing, a visit to Healdsburg art galleries, scrapbooking, MaryKay party, digital photo lab, sports, short tube/float down the river, and just hanging out and visiting.
• Games and Prizes. It is really important that the younger generations of Nicola Cousins get to know each other and create deep bonds. So, we are planning a variety of games with significant prizes for those who can explain their relationship to one another. If you have ideas for prizes or have something you want to donate for a prize, please let Karen know. We are also looking for interesting and trivia information about each of you so we can all enjoy the get-to-know-each-other-games even more!
• wii This great electronic game has many of us enjoying hours of great fun. It looks like we will even have a wii championship. So come ready for more fun!
• Sabbath & Missions. There has been some interest in the possibility of planning a Nicola Mission Trip. So plan to participate in some great brainstorming and information on Sabbath. Maranatha has been contacted as well as a personal friend of Denny's who has special projects going on in Ethiopia, where the Nicola name is still spoken of with respect.
• Pass this on. It is really important that you pass this blog site on to all the members in your family, just to make sure everyone gets the information. If you know of someone who does not have internet access, please contact Karen immediately and we will send out snail mail info to that person/s.
• Stay Tuned. We will be posting more of the details for the weekend as we get confirmations regarding meals, family picnic, scheduling, etc.

Family Address Book

Here is Peggy's request for creating a Family Address Book

I’ve been asked to put together a family address book for the Reunion. This will be an actual booklet. There are a lot of us and a lot of information to pull together, so I’m asking for the following information at your earliest convenience…or earlier! You can help by sending me the e-mail addresses of any family members that you have. We are missing a large number of people!

NAME/s – include spouses, and children still living at home (your grownup chickadees will get their own listing!...although you are welcome to send that information for them)

ADDRESS – you may include both a mailing and street address if they are different.

PHONE # - include land-line and/or cell numbers for everyone you want included.

FAX # - if you have one and want the number included.

E-MAIL – include e-mail addresses for everyone in your family who wants it listed.

The book is going to include an “Advertising” section in the back of the book. So, if you have a business, sell something, provide a service, do crafts, or are associated with a facility or institution of some sort, please include (ideas below):

Ad sizes: Business card size: 3-1/2” x 2”
Half-page size: approx. 5” x 4”
Full page size: approx. 5” x 8”

If you sell something such as real estate, Mary Kay, Avon, health supplements, etc.

If you provide a service such as dentistry, physician, transcription, contracting, accounting, lawyer, photography, bed & breakfast, counseling, landscape maintenance, catering, music lessons, travel agency, etc.

Or any type of business.

Or any type of institution you’re associated with (i.e. teachers, principals, an orchestra or band, musical group, etc.)

Basically, ANYTHING. You can even just send your own personal card. The more people who participate the better!!!

Questions that have already been asked include whether the “ad” space is being sold. No, it isn’t, but we may need to request a small “donation” for each book to defray some of the printing expenses. (All donations welcome!).
